The "progessives" represent a new order of political entities ... conservatism, at least grassroot conservatism, is not dead - but classic liberalism is.
Once upon a time the two main political parties of the USA were good counterparts to each other, a sort of check and balance system within the system. But then, beginning in the FDR era, some Americans visualized that socialism or even communism was good within moderation. McCarthy died with people making fun of him and saying nasty things about him - and still do posthumously; however, as history often shows, he was on the right track. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and St. Petersburg returned as the name of the original city, et cetera; those favoring socialism, Maoism and even communism did not see the light. Today, essentially they are anti-American, yet are citizens born and raised here with some sort of knowledge of how this nation became great - via being a democratic republic.
So, our mission, among the silent majority no longer silent, is to return the republic for which our democracy stands for and remember and adhere to the principles of its founders - and the great leadership since then.
America has survived a revolution against the most powerful nation at the time, a civil war, and righting the wrongs concerning civil rights. We lagged behind England in declaring that slavery was wrong and unlawful in a democratic nation. But we abolished it. We learn from our mistakes, like humans should. However, we have an element who has grown from the social turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s, sponsored by enemies of democracy and the United States who are, as Stalin and/or Lenin allegedly called "useful idiots". Despite all of this knowledge and the political and social position of Stalin, FDR somehow admired him and despite Winston Churchill's warning about him - he appeared to trust him too much.
So, as a result, classical liberalism IS dead - and it has been replaced with the government elite who are "progressives" - progressive-socialists. And that progressiveness has far reaching and dangerous advocacies that must be stopped.
And not to let those in the Republican Party off the hook - there is an element of so-called conservatives who call themselves "moderate" - a term that is meaningless in translation, and really describes a group of Republicans who are not traditional, but adhere too much to the powers of the political left for various reasons known mostly to themselves.
Voters must be more responsible and not make political parties the issue or reasoning for voting for someone. The individual is running for office and the political party is just an organization that can raise the amount of funds that is required in today's world in order to reach out to the people and make them aware of their presence - and obtain their vote.
My Spanish is not that good, so I was not able to comprehend what a previous commentator wrote.
I have folks from various nations across the sea and within this hemisphere, but I am lucky they can write in English. I would like a translation system, which my blog host is working on and that would allow folks who do not have the ability to write their thoughts in English. This is a good thing if we are going to communicate in the wonderful world of cyberspace and reach other thoughtful and freedom-loving people across the globe.
I said it before - but I would like to commend the "ghost" for this blog and its interesting discussions.

Your brand of conservatism sure has a lot of progressive elements in it:

1. "supports access to education..." (as in public education, free of charge, of the same quality for everyone?)

2. "supports legislation that protects people from discrimination, enables and facilitates free speech, holds moneyed interests accountable to the people"

3. "supports the right of workers to unionize and bargain collectively for their own Betterment"

If the above are your brand of conservatism, the only difference between you and a progressive would be details (not that details can't make for one hell of a debate ;-)). Then again, many conservatives and progressives can agree on broadly defined goals: public education, ending of discrimination, corporate oversight and responsiblity, the right to unionize, etc... Nonetheless if it wasn't for the "But" in each of your posts, you'd make a good Democrat ;-)
